DreamLife Aftercare and Work Program

DreamLife Recovery offers a comprehensive aftercare program designed to help individuals maintain long-term recovery after completing primary treatment. The program focuses on developing life skills in key areas like interview preparation, career exploration, financial management, stress-coping techniques, and establishing healthy boundaries.

This holistic approach aims to set clients up for success beyond treatment.  Mental and spiritual health is addressed through a variety of means, but one of the focus points is purpose – what is an individual’s purpose that provides them with motivation and healthy self-esteem? More often than not, for most people, it is through employment.

The Role of Stable Employment or Work In Recovery

As adults, one of the defining portions of our identity is our work. Employment provides us with financial security and provides structure to our day. Employment gives us a sense of purpose and responsibility.

Clients working towards sobriety are often looking for structure, accountability, self-reliance, purpose, and trust, all of which are achievable through employment. Employment allows a recovered individual to support changes in their routine and encourages healthy habits.

Employment/Work as Part of Holistic Approach to Addiction Treatment

Our team, from the clinicians to the case management team, understands the importance of focusing on all areas of an individual’s life, not just solely focused on the drug and alcohol component. One of the basic human desires is to feel that we can support ourselves and our loved ones.

Most clients want to feel that they can be financially independent and have the ability to meet their basic needs while also having a purpose and daily routine that is often missing from their lifestyle in active addiction.

Aftercare and Work Program

When one is considering resuming their work life upon completing addiction treatment, the following techniques will help secure a job and set you up for reentry into the community:

1.      Interview Preparation and Resume Building

The first part of the program focuses on interview preparation and resume building. Clients work one-on-one with career coaches to polish their resumes, practice common interview questions, and roleplay difficult scenarios.

They learn how to discuss their recovery journey honestly yet professionally and how to address any work gaps on their resume. Mock interviews help build confidence and readiness for the job search process.

2.    Explore Career Options

Next, clients explore various career options that align with their strengths, interests, and sobriety needs. Dreamlife’s career coaches provide personality and skills assessments to uncover new possibilities.

Clients research requirements and outlooks for different fields. They create a multi-year career plan with benchmarks to work towards. DreamLife also connects clients to alumni in various careers who share their experiences and advice.

3.    Establishing a Healthy Work-Life Balance

A key component addresses establishing a healthy work-life balance. Clients learn the importance of maintaining sobriety routines like meetings and self-care even while working.

They practice setting boundaries and prioritizing recovery above job stresses. DreamLife coaches discuss how to communicate needs respectfully with employers and ask for accommodation when needed.

Time management strategies help clients transition smoothly from treatment to managing personal and professional responsibilities.

4.   Learn Financial Management Skills

Financial management skills are another focus. Budgeting workshops teach clients to track spending, pay bills on time, save for goals, and avoid predatory lending.

DreamLife’s financial counselors also discuss credit scores and repair. Clients draft personalized budgets that factor in living costs and recovery expenses. Dreamlife provides ongoing budget check-ins and accountability to reinforce good money habits.

5.     Learn Stress Management

Stress is a common trigger, so DreamLife devotes significant time to stress management. Clients sample relaxation techniques like deep breathing, yoga, journaling, and mindfulness meditation.

Psychoeducation addresses how to recognize and cope with stressful feelings in healthy ways. DreamLife counselors teach communication strategies to address conflicts and say “no” assertively at work and home. Recovery support systems also help manage stress long-term.

6.    Learn How To Set Boundaries

Setting boundaries is an essential life skill for maintaining sobriety and wellness. Dreamlife coaches discuss the importance of boundaries regarding people, places, things, and behaviors that could enable relapse or compromise recovery.

Through roleplays, clients practice respectfully enforcing boundaries at work, socially, and at home. DreamLife counselors emphasize that boundaries protect long-term recovery goals above all else.

7.     Master Positive Self-Image and Professionalism

Positive self-image and professionalism are also fostered during our aftercare program. DreamLife hosts workshops on dressing for success, communication styles, and personal brand development.

Clients are encouraged to identify and celebrate their strengths and values. Counselors help reframe past issues into learning experiences that build character.

DreamLife encourages clients to redefine their identities beyond addiction by pursuing passions and giving back through service. Focusing on gratitude, compassion, and personal growth helps solidify recovery identities.
